Ebay item 8/15/08

Sellers description:
Series 1 4.2, matching numbers, roadster in need of restoration. If you are familiar with e-types you probably already know that the 1965 through 1967 model years are very desirable since they have the covered headlights, triple carbs, 4.2 liter engines and the fully synchronized transmission.

This is a very good candidate for a nice restoration. The car is matching numbers, which is very important if you are going to spend the money to restore a Jaguar. Red was the original color of the car, therefore you can paint it red and be able to claim it is the original color.

The car runs and drives. Engine sounds very good and has excellent oil pressure. Tires are very old and dry rotted, they will need to be replaced for the car to be safe to drive on a public road.

I purchased the car from a gentleman that had it for 33 years. When he purchased the car in 1975 the engine was running but not very good. Also, the prior owner damaged the front of the bonnet while using a dolly to transport the car. The car was put into storage and in 1989 the engine and transmission were rebuild by Jaguar Performance Center at a cost of over $10,000. I have the receipts and it shows that the following were replaced:

pistons, main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, intake and exhaust valves, valve seats, water pump, oil pump, valve springs, hydraulic tensioner, upper and lower chains, valve guides, motor mounts, clutch set, radiator, header tank, exhaust system, alternator, etc.

The car went back into storage and this year it got new front wheel bearings, new front brake calipers and flex hoses. The rear suspension was overhauled and it received new rear rotors, new rear brake calipers, new flex hose, new rear shocks, U-joints checked and greased. The rear suspension is now nice and clean. The cost of this repair was $5330.

The car needs to have the bonnet repaired and fitted. The damage I do not believe would be too bad to correct. The engine frame is the original and appears to be straight. There is some rust on the floors, I would replace the two front dip wells plus the driver's side rear floor. Some rust on the rocker panel under the battery (which is typical), the rest of the rocker seems fine. Doors have good gaps and only have surface rust. Bottom line is that the body will need work but it is not terrible. Mechanically the car already has had many of its major components rebuilt such as the engine, clutch and brakes.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
