In 1973 Mr Edward Hinton embarked on a trip to see more of the world and to purchase his dream car, a Jaguar E-Type. He had sold his 1968 MGB, purchased with money from his 21st birthday and a good deal of credit and journeyed across the globe.
On the 7th of June, after a few weeks in London, he was flipping through the pages of the South London Exchange and Mart and spotted an ad for a 1966 Series 1 4.2 E-Type Roadster. The car was listed by a Mr Terence Bruce of Canvey Island in Essex.
With only 63,000 miles on the clock it ticked all the prerequisites that were decided a long time before in Sunny Australia and was duly purchased (the very advert the car was purchased from is pictured).
He took the car to the Isle of Man within a few weeks of purchase as he had a friend there. There are photos of the car in front of Castles one is Peel Castle with the Viking ships the other in Scotland 5 months later.
On returning to London he drove to Dover and drove through to the North of Sweden, returning to Paris and eventually back to London (where he worked as a storeman with RCA records in Ladbroke Grove).
The car and Edward were shipped back to Australia on 17th of December; However, the ship was delayed, and it did not arrive until February 1974. At that time, the car was registered in NSW and still driven regularly. By 1975 Edward had moved from his home and Motel in Nambucca heads to Sydney, and left the car at the "Blue Dolphin Motel" and with his Mother and father until about 1980 at which time it was driven up to his latest move to Queensland.
The car had a respray in 1979 retaining its factory colour (inside the boot, under the bonnet was not resprayed and is original from new paint), little use since, mainly short runs to keep everything turning and reliable and has covered only 89,000 Miles in total since 1966.
The Leather seats, console, carpets and passenger’s footrest are all original. The interior vinyl door and sill covers are original, however were recoloured to match the inside of the soft top.
Everything in the boot is original the wood panels the spare all the trim and the paint. The Jack, Thor hammer, the tool roll as was originally supplied with the car including 4 Jaguar spanners and monogramed tyre gauge.
This E-Type is sold with hard-top, original driver’s handbook, Jaguar guarantee are also with the car.
The car is currently registered in Queensland on Club plates.
The 4.2 series 1 E-Types are often thought of as the most desirable variants available, and being one of only 864 Right Hand Drive Series 1 4.2 roadsters made, this E-Type is a great opportunity to acquire a true and iconic classic car that can thoroughly be enjoyed on the open road.
This vehicle is sold unregistered.
