Just bought it today. The previous owner bought it in 1973.

I bought this car from a dear friend in 2005 who bought it in 1973 from the original owner.
He had started the restoration, but never got enough time to finish it. I've finally started on it, and hopefully will get it done.

    Hy
I think the bonnet is not from the original car.
    E17645 is certainly a S11/2 car, and the next cars 1E17646, 47, 48.......have all the S11/2 bonnet.

"Anonymous wrote the bonnet is not from the original car"

That is correct, it is from a '69. The original owner changed it after an accident in (I think 1970), and he wanted the newer look. At some point I might swap it out, but right now I'm having too much fun driving it to care! :-)

    Auction description:

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

    Lot #192231

This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster was purchased by the seller’s husband as a disassembled project in 2005 and refurbished over the next 10 years. Work included overhauling the brakes, rebuilding the carburetors, and replacing the shock absorbers, fuel tank, clutch cylinders, and exhaust system. Power is from a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the car is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow over black leather upholstery. Features include a black soft top, a louvered hood, chrome knock-off wire wheels, and a push-button AM radio. This XKE shows 20k miles and is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, spare parts, a hard top, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.

Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars, but retained Series I features such as taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example is finished from the factory in Pale Primrose Yellow and was repainted under previous ownership and fitted with a Series II E-Type front clamshell hood, bumper, and turn signals. Dents and peeling paint are noted on the underside of the front fascia, and the seller notes loose weather stripping on the doors and a rust bubble near the driver’s A-pillar. Replacement weather stripping seals are included in the sale.

Chrome 15” knock-off wire wheels have pitting and are mounted with Universal Sport tires that were replaced in August 2013. One wheel was replaced in 2013, and the trailing arm bushings and shock absorbers were replaced in March 2008. The braking system was overhauled, which included replacing the brake master cylinder as well as the rotors, pads, and calipers at all four corners. The seller notes the brakes feel soft and should be addressed before continuous road use.

The bucket seats are trimmed in black leather and accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, and door panels. Both door latches and the driver-side door handles were replaced in February 2011. Jaguar-branded rubberized floor mats line the footwells, and other amenities include a height-adjustable rear-view mirror, rocker switches for vehicle functions, a push-button AM radio, and a locking glove box. The seller states the HVAC system does not work, and wear is visible on the driver’s seat.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, with fewer than 200 added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The fuel tank and sending unit were replaced in 2007, the hood hinges in 2013, and the carburetors were rebuilt and spark plugs replaced in 2023. The seller notes that the car is hesitant to start after sitting for a prolonged period.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. The muffler, exhaust hangers, and clutch cylinders were replaced in March 2008.

A vinyl hardtop and mounting hardware are included in the sale.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
