Lot 179 at Historics Auction of Classic Cars at Windsorview Lakes near Datchet on 16 July 2022. Sold for £68,320. Abbreviated catalogue description below.

The Heritage Certificate shows DWL110D was completed on 12 January 1966 and dispatched to the distributor, Henlys London on 24 January 1966. A home market, manual car that comes with a lovely history file chronicling its ownership and the work carried out throughout most of its life. Amongst the correspondence are communications from Lynx Cars, who restored the car to A1 standard in 1990. As part of the restoration, they included a photographic record of the restoration. There is also correspondence between the other specialists documenting the progress of various works carried out on the car. The vendor, who has owned the car for the past ten years, has always garaged and maintained the car, having any work needed carried out immediately.

The car has just had a major service, which included having the carburettors rebuilt, the vendor reporting the car runs and drives very well. The consignor was taken for a drive in it and was impressed by how well it ran. The interior presents well and matches the mechanical condition of the car. There is evidence of micro blistering in the car's paint, as well as the odd mark that is to be expected from an older restoration, but the car appears very solid, both struturally and mechanically. Supplied with a UK V5C registration document, Heritage Certificate, MoT test certificates dating back to the 1980s, current MoT valid to May 2022, toolkit and file receipts and the history of the car's life. The 4.2 coupe is a rare car, especially a manual home market car.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
