This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe left the factory in June 1965 for personal export delivery in the UK and was subsequently distributed to the US via Jaguar Cars of New York. Chassis 1E31120 underwent a repaint in dark blue in 1993 and is said to have remained with its first owner until 2003, when it was acquired by the selling dealer’s client. The 4.2-liter inline-six was overbored as part of a rebuild completed in 2021, while the four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential were overhauled in 2022. The car features a louvered clamshell hood, enclosed headlights, and wraparound chrome bumpers. It rides on 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels and is fitted with adjustable shocks as well as upgraded torsion bars. Inside, the seats have been re-trimmed in dark blue leather and are accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel as well as a retrofitted air conditioning system and stereo. Further equipment includes triple SU carburetors, a Fidanza lightweight flywheel, and an upgraded radiator coupled with an electric puller fan. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, a tool kit, spare parts, and a clean Oregon title in the owner’s name. This example left the factory finished in Dark Blue and was stripped, repaired, and repainted under previous ownership in 1993.
The car features a louvered clamshell hood, enclosed headligts, fender-mounted side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, wraparound chrome bumpers, and a side-hinged rear hatch. The selling dealer notes paint chipping and blemishes on the rocker panels.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Defender tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The selling dealer tells us that adjustable shocks, upgraded torsion bars, and polyurethane suspension bushings have been added.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in dark blue leather along with color-coordinated door panels. A Kenwood stereo is connected to Crystal speakers on either side of the center console as well as Pioneer units behind the seats. The leather seat covers and the carpets were replaced in 1993 along with the vinyl console trim and armrests, and an aftermarket air conditioning kit was retrofitted in 2005. Work in 2025 involved repairing the B-pillar upholstery.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer and is paired with a wood shift knob. Centrally mounted auxiliary readouts include a Lucas ammeter as well as Smiths gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The speedometer was recalibrated for use with larger wheels and tires by Nisonger Instruments of Mamaroneck, New York, in 2015, and the drive seal was replaced in 2022. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, and approximately 20k miles are said to have been added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six featured triple SU carburetors from the factory for a rating of 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. This engine was bored .030 over, decked, and fitted with custom pistons as part of a rebuild completed by Bearing Service Company of Portland, Oregon, in 2021. Work in 2022 involved rebuilding the fuel system as well as refurbishing the exhaust manifolds. The car is further equipped with a Fidanza lightweight flywheel, a Hi Torque starter, and a dual exhaust system as well as an upgraded radiator paired with an electric puller fan.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was rebuilt by Chip Starr at Race Car Resurrections of Portland, Oregon, in 2022, and the differential and hubs were also overhauled that year at British Auto Works in North Plains.
A composite photo showing various identification markings around the vehicle is shown above.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
