1967 Jaguar XKE E type coupe, 3 carb. Driver. Low Price!

Jaguar’s sexy, sensational ‘60s sports car, successor to the XK150 but sharing a good many styling and technical details first seen on the racing D-Type Jag. Like that car, the E-Type’s construction used a multi-tube front end bolted to a “bathtub” steel bodyshell. The long, low hood and front fenders were welded as one assembly, and hinged at the front to lift up for almost unrestricted engine access. The 3.8-liter version of the venerable twincam XK engine was marketed first, along with a manual gearbox with non-synchro first gear. Beginning in 1965, the larger 4.2-liter engine and an all-synchro transmission were specified, which improved low-speed driving ease. Initial body styles were the traditional two-seat roadster and a sleek new fastback, coupe with a side-hinged rear door. These were joined in 1966 by a stretched-wheelbase coupe with 2+2 seating and somewhat less lithe appearance, offered only with the larger six. U.S. models were sold as the XKE, and differed little from British-market versions through 1967. After that, styling suffered due to federal safety standards, which brought side market lights, clumsier bumpers, and more upright exposed headlights (previously mounted behind smoothly shaped plastic covers). Independent suspension and disc brakes were found at each wheel, and the E-Type quickly earned fame for its terrific roadability matched with brisk performance. The basic design continued into the early ‘70s in much-modified form with Jaguar’s then-new V-12. That ultimately gave way to the, until recently -current XJS, until recently which was more a GT than a true sports-car successor. The E-Type is still a head-turner even today, and one of the most desirable collector’s items you can own. Prices were reasonable 20 years ago, but they skyrocketed during the ‘80s. Fully restored cars are still very expensive.

Today the 1967 is considered the most desirable driver of the three series cars. It features the dependable 4.2, fully synchro box, the triple carbs, the covered headlights, shorter wheelbase, and no pollution gear to starve horsepower.

This car is an original black on black and features wire wheels. It is in very original
“barn fresh” condition where it had been sitting idle for many, many years. The car has just been refreshed. The gas tank removed, boiled and dipped. The carbs have been redone and the brakes inspected and fluid changed. The clutch was stuck but now operates well. The motor runs really well. The motor has been rebuilt / replaced according to the previous owner and it doesn’t appear to smoke.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
