Car appears to have all Series 1.5 features and may be the first Series 1.5 coupe to leave the factory. Pictures of 1E34579, the immediately preceding car, show an open headlighht car with a toggle switch dash, smooth cam covers, triple SUs and no Series 1.5 features - clearly an open headlight Series 1 vehicle. JCNA lists 1E34583 as the first Series 1.5 coupe, but, based on the photos, 1E34580 may actually be the first produced.

Auction description:
1968 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2-Litre Coupe
Lot 2
Amelia Island 2015
Print FriendlyPrint
Estimate: $60,000 - $80,000
Without Reserve
Chassis: 1E34580
Numbered 1E 34580, this fascinating example is highly authentic, retaining a partially original paint finish and the original interior. It was built to a desirable specification including wire-spoke wheels and a manual gearbox; has enjoyed a limited chain of owners; and the consignor reports that the E-Type has remained in the Michigan area, where it was sold new, for nearly its entire existence. Based upon its chassis number, body style, and August 1967 build date, 1E 34580 is a very early open-headlamp E-Type Coupe, and it was depicted and discussed as such in Thomas Haddock's definitive Jaguar E-Type Six-Cylinder Restoration & Originality Guide. As offered, it retains the engine block stamped with the number 7E 14113-9, while the cylinder head is numbered 7E7139-9. According to the consignor, a major engine-out service was performed in 2003. Offered complete with a JDHT Certificate listing original data, this fascinating E-Type Coupe marks a truly historic find for Jaguar enthusiasts and collectors everywhere.
