The first E Type Jaguar with disc brakes and independent suspension all round was announced in March 1961 as an XK150 replacement. The first of the E Type line was powered by the familiar 3791cc 6-cylinder XK engine, which produced 265bhp at the flywheel. Thanks to aerodynamically slippery bodywork of the open roadster or fixed head closed coupe body styles offered - initially with faired-in headlamps behind cowls - E Type performance was sensational and the model instantly achieved legendary status.
The E Type on offer, with fixed head coupe bodywork in silver with blue interior, first left the Browns Lane works in Coventry in 1968. According to the Staffordshire vendor, it has been in receipt of a total restoration, which has only been completed. The internals of the 4.2-litre engine have all been freshly renewed and Weber carburetors fitted. The steering is power-assisted, the brakes uprated, the rear suspension widened, the wheels peg-drive and the gearbox a 5-speed Getrag. The owner tells us that as a result of all these modifications, 220bhp has been recorded at the wheels.
Clearly this very well sorted E Type looks right and reportedly goes extremely well too, having been very well prepared. A fortunate new owner may well be able to secure it here today for considerably less than has recently been spent to achieve the current specification and condition.
Please Note: The estimate on this vehicle was changed further to its arrival at Buxton.
