For sale at Brightwell auction 26th November 2014

    classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php

    Jaguar E-Type S1 2+2 4.2 Coupe

    Lot number 140
    Estimate £25,000 - £28,000
    Description Jaguar E-Type S1 2+2 4.2 Coupe
    Registration JKJ 383E
    Year 1966
    Colour Carmen Red
    Engine size 4,235 cc
    Chassis No. 1E50477
    Engine No. 7E 52321-9

This UK-supplied matching numbers RHD example was purchased by the vendor in 2009 having just received a ground-up bare metal restoration. The Heritage Certificate shows that its manufacture date was 1st September 1966 and it was dispatched to distributors Henlys of London on 18th October of that year. They passed it to Pembury Car Sales in Kent who registered it JKJ 383E on behalf of Mr B Best of Heathfield, Sussex. Ordered in Carmen Red with black upholstery it was built with a manual gearbox.

Mr Best kept the car until 2006 when he sold it to a Mr Coleman. He undertook a thorough bare metal restoration, keeping the car until 2009 before passing it to the vendor, thus it has had just three owners during its 48-year lifespan.

A substantial history file accompanies the car showing that during its rebuild a new floor was fitted (supplied by Martin Robey Panels) along with new subframe mounts and footwells. It was repainted in Jaguar Carmen Red, all seals were replaced along with all brakes, suspension arms and mountings, a reconditioned radiator and new carpets and headlining. Photographs on file detail the extensive amount of work carried out.

A photograph supplied from its original owner shows the car in what looks to be the early 1970s. In this picture, its current Series 2 bonnet had already been fitted, its two subsequent owners choosing to keep this item which has been on the car for at least 40 years.

This well presented low owners example is MOTd until November 2015 and is only being sold to help fund an extensive (and expensive) house renovation project and needs nothing more than a new fourth owner to to enjoy and preserve it for future generations.

    Engine No. 7E52321-9
Documents V5C; MOT April 2019; restoration invoices and photos; Heritage Certificate
    Estimate £40,000 - £45,000

As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this Carmen Red E-Type was built on 1st September 1966 and was dispatched to distributors Henlys of London on 18th October. They passed it to Pembury Car Sales in Kent who registered it JKJ 383E on behalf of Mr B Best of Heathfield, Sussex.

Mr Best kept the car right up until 2006 when he sold it to a Mr Coleman. He undertook a thorough bare metal restoration, keeping the car until 2009 before selling it to another gentleman from whom our vendor acquired it in 2014, thus it has had just four owners during its 52 years to date.

A substantial history file accompanies the car showing that during its rebuild a new floor was fitted (supplied by Martin Robey Panels) along with new subframe mounts and footwells. It was repainted in the original Carmen Red, all seals were replaced along with all brakes, suspension arms and mountings, a reconditioned radiator and new carpets and headlining. Photographs on file detail the extensive amount of work carried out.

A photograph supplied from its original owner shows the car in what looks to be the early 1970s. In this picture, its current Series 2 bonnet had already been fitted, its subsequent owners choosing to keep this item which has been on the car for at least 40 years.

A 'matching numbers' machine, it ran very sweetly as we moved it around for these photos and comes with an MOT valid until April 2019 with just one minor advisory: 'nearside brake performance low'. Only reluctantly for sale due to lack of time in which to enjoy it (it has only covered around 400 miles in the vendor's four-year ownership) it now only needs a lucky fifth owner who can give it the more regular exercise it deserves.

Sold by Bicester Sports and Classics of Aylesbury in July 2022. Amended seller's description below:

    www.bicestersportscars.co.uk/car-sales/1968-jaguar-e-type-series-1-4-2-litre-2-p ...

This example was supplied new in 1967 in the UK and has never been exported like many and is a rare 2 plus 2 model. Restored in the late 1990s and has been carefully maintained since by her four owners. Finished in Carmen Red and is original numbers and engine all confirmed by the Heritage Certificate. The condition is commensurate with it enjoying ongoing maintenance and the originality is lovely to behold. Recent expenditure was around £5000 and included brake recon, oil seals and full service. On the road, the E Type is amazing and must have been like jumping into a supersonic fighter jet when they were new in the 1960s! This one is ready for use.
