Auction 2016 Techno Classica
Lot Number 110

As with so many other E-Types, it was exported when new to the US, but in 2000 it was returned to Europe where it has since been renovated. Over the past four years its braking system has been overhauled, with new joints and bearings fitted to the automatic gearbox and differential, while the steering system and front axle have also been rebuilt. Sitting on nearly-new Pirelli tyres, this most practical 6-cyl 4.2-litre E-Type comes with German road papers and TÜV until August 2017. Finished in the most elegant colour combination of gleaming black with tan leather interior, this is a Jaguar is not to be missed, especially with the realistic reserve price it is offered with here.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
