The production of the famous Jaguar V12 engine had been on the table since the sixties and continual development of the project saw a four cam version fitted to the still born but infamous XJ13 race car project. By 1971 Jaguar had announced the introduction of its new E Type fitted with a single cam per cylinder bank V12 engine. Replacing the old 4.2 litre unit was not going to be easy, for you must remember that this engine had been the main stay of the E Type since 1964 and had featured in saloon models as well. It was a powerful, durable and most of all reliable unit. However this new engine grafted into the re styled body of the series 3 E Type became an instant success. Performance was brisk with 152mph top speed and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds the 5.3 litre producing 272bhp at 5,850rpm and 3041b.ft at 3,600rpm, it was also incredibly refined and flexible and it is still regarded as one of the finest ever production engines. The Series 3 E-Type also boasted improved grip courtesy of wider wheels and tyres, anti-dive front suspension, ventilated front disc brakes and an 18 gallon fuel tank. The fuel crisis of the mid 1970's effectively halted the cars success in period, but during the boom of the late 1980's these cars enjoyed the opposite with prices nearing £100,000 for well presented Roadsters.
This UK delivered car from 1972, finished in Old English white with a Navy blue leather interior is described by the current owner of the last 14 years as in generally good condition. Since his ownership the service history has been maintained and the car has had fitted 4 new exhaust manifolds and a stainless steel sports exhaust, while the electrics have been replaced and the carburettors fully overhauled. Supplied with an MoT September 2005 and road fund license until February 2006, it has the more desirable manual gearbox and original steel wheels.

Entered H&H Classic Auctions,Pavillion Gardens,Buxton 20th Jun 2005 ,estimate £26000-£28000 No Sale ,Engine # 7S6591SA Reg # TGC517L Description:This S3 E-Type, an original right-hand drive roadster with four-speed manual gearbox, first left the Coventry works in 1972, since when it has had wonderful history all of which, including fourteen former MOT certificates and other correspondence, is on file and may be inspected at our Documents Office at Buxton. The open two-seater in white with blue leather interior has not been restored and has always been maintained properly, claims the entrant, the most recent service carried out in March of this year, while the latest MOT certificate will be current until October. Current cosmetic and mechanical condition is rated as being all good, he says. Still in place are the original radio, the standard-equipment chromed steel wheels and the original fish-shaped four-outlet exhaust, the system being in stainless steel. The twelve-cylinder engine does not overheat and maintains good oil pressure, says the vendor, who believes that the 111,000 mileage displayed when entered for this auction is the correct total for the E-Type from new which has therefore only been averaging around 4800 miles per year. TGC 517L reportedly drives like it should do too.

This series 3 is an original right hand drive car with steel wheels and the much more desirable manual four speed gearbox. It first left the Coventry works in 1972 and has led a wonderful life since which is all recorded in the history file and includes some fourteen previous MOT certificates which helps to confirm the warranted mileage of 114,000miles from new. The open two seater is finished in white with the blue leather interior, which is original and has not been restored, and is in exceptional all-round condition with a current MOT certificate until next year. It still sports the original radio and has a stainless steel fish-shaped four outlet exhaust and we are informed that it does not overheat when driven and maintains good oil pressure.

Manual gearbox, pressed steel chrome wheels, PAS, original radio and trunk lock. This is an original UK car and has one of the most complete history files you will find. This car has covered 111,000 miles, which equates to just 4,800 miles per year. Holds the correct oil pressure. This is not a show car, but a great example of an E-Type that has been used, looked after and maintained properly.
