This car was originally bought new by Mr Simon Forrest near Glasgow on the 10th of October 1974, who put his personal registration number (424 FS) on it, he kept the car until around 2002 when the car had an engine compartment fire. It was then bought by Classic Autosports Scotland who fitted a Getrag 5 speed, SU carb conversion, stainless exhaust manifolds, polybushed suspension etc. At this time the car was re registered NDS 836N. The car then passed on to Andy Dee-Crowne in Buckinghamshire, he then passed the car on to Woodmanton Classic Cars in Herefordshire, Last seen advertised in 2005 for £36,000

www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php was at auction 5/08

Auction description:
Coys at Lords Monday 3rd March 2008
Lot 318
1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster
Registration no: NDS 836N
Chassis no: 152389
Estimate: £28,000-32,000

Manufactured in 1974 this roadster example is presented in excellent condition, finished in Signal Red with a black leather interior and a black mohair hood. During its 34 year history the car has been in the hands of only six owners with the current keeper a local resident who is only selling due to relocation in America. In 2003 this Jaguar benefited from a full body restoration by Classis Autosports of Angus, Scotland, detailed photographs and records of which are available in the accompanying history file. A subsequent painstaking mechanical restoration was performed over two years (2006-'07) by the highly regarded J.D. Classics at a cost in excess of £30,000.

All major systems were addressed including a comprehensive engine overhaul, complete with up-rated SU carburettors, a stainless steel exhaust system and Opus electronic ignition, a front and rear suspension rebuild and braking, electrical and fuel systems rebuilt to original specifications; the rear axle was also overhauled, as was the desirable five speed manual Getrag gearbox. Dozens of other methodical improvements were made, too many to list here but they are fully documented and to the highest standard.

Complete with a V5 registration document, this is perhaps one of the finest V12 roadsters on the market.

1973 Jaguar E Type Series 3 V12 Convertible

Chassis No. 1S2389 : Right Hand Drive : Home Market Supplied

Our car was manufactured on 27th August 1973, finished in Signal Red with Biscuit Hide and supplied new by Henlys of London on the 10th of October 1973. The car was restored circa 2003 using the original monocoque/ bodyshell, re painted in its original colour with modifications that included a Limited Slip Diff, new interior with black upholstery, Getrag 5 speed gearbox, upgraded stainless exhaust system and a full SU carburettor conversion.

JD Cassics carried out a full engine and mechanical rebuild in 2006 and 2007 totalling £60,000. The last keeper acquired the car in 2008 and continued the meticulous attention to detail with a further £18,000 being spent on the car in Switzerland in 2008.

Accompanying the car is a very comprehensive historical chassis file containing:

• Details of mechanical and body restorations
• Original handbook
• Jaguar Heritage Production Certificate
• Mot's dating back to 2005

The car remains today in exceptional order and its appearance is especially attractive finished in gleaming Signal Red with black leather interior. Available for immediate inspection from our central London showroom; this E Type will turn heads wherever it goes. £69,995

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
