My father bought this car in 1975 in Norfolk Va when he was still on active duty with the USMC. I took possession in 2006 after an extensive restoration. I have recently done a mechanical refresh and new clutch, recovered seats with new seat cushions and recovered dash and center console.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster has been in the seller’s family since it was purchased by the seller’s father in 1976. Records document restoration efforts in the late 1970s, early 1980s, and—most extensively—in the early 1990s. The seller took possession of the car in 2006. Beginning in 2015, the wiring harnesses were replaced, the hydraulic system was overhauled, the clutch was replaced, and the interior was reupholstered. It is finished in Signal Red over black leather and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six, which was rebuilt in 1992. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, a black convertible top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, Spax adjustable front dampers, and a Kenwood stereo. This XKE roadster is now offered in California with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, spare parts, and a clean Tennessee title listing the car as a 1971 model.

The body was disassembled and repainted Signal Red during refurbishment work that commenced in 1992, which included media blasting the bonnet and re-leading seams. Exterior features include a replacement black soft top fitted in 2005, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes that the bonnet and doors do not align properly due to deteriorated adhesive. Bubbling paint and other imperfections are visible.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are secured by lobed nuts and were mounted with 185/70 Vredestein tires in October 2018. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The front brake calipers were rebuilt with stainless-steel pistons, and the brake master cylinder was replaced in 2013. In October 2018, the sway bar bushings, trailing arm bushings, pinion, and differential seals were replaced. The front suspension was rebuilt and fitted with Spax adjustable dampers in July 2022.

The cabin was refreshed in 2016 with an interior kit from BAS International. The kit included a dash cover, carpets, interior panels, and black leather upholstery for the bucket seats. A modern Kenwood stereo and new speakers were installed in 2022.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The water temperature gauge and sender were replaced in July 2023. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 80k miles, about 13k of which were added by the seller since 2006.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt at approximately 65k miles in 1992 with a polished crankshaft and replacement valve stem seals, valve springs, and cam and crankshaft bearings. Modifications include a Flame Thrower solid-state ignition system, a Howe Racing aluminum radiator, and Cool Cat cooling fans. The alternator was replaced at ~68k miles, and work at ~70k miles included re-torquing the cylinder head, replacing valve cover gaskets, adjusting and resealing the timing chain, and rebuilding the dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch was replaced in 2016, and the the car is fitted with a stainless-steel exhaust system.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory equipment and production information as well as a build date of May 18, 1970.
