Sellers comment:
1964 (last year of production) 3.8 series I roadster. In classic British racing green with tan buckets, the car has had the same owner for the last 20 years and is all original including the sheet metal (the only exception being one repaint and a redone interior) and is now ready for a very easy restoration. Over the last 5 years lots of expensive work has been done including rebuilt cylinder head, new carpet, recovered seats, new top, new tires, new rotors, calipers and brakes, complete new exhaust system, rebuilt rear end, clutch/brake cylinders , new battery, new series II synchromesh gearbox (I still have the original moss matching no's box which comes with the car and is in excellent condition, the owner preferred an easier shift with a synchromesh box) and coil. Basically now you are left with the body, engine detailing and finishing the interior to make it a driver/local show car. The body is good on the car with a rustfree bonnet, fenders, doors, rails, firewall, trunk floor, underbelly, space frame and inner rockers. The only rust is in small areas of the front floor foot wells and I have the repalcement panels, although you may not need them as the rust is confined to a small area, and 3 egg sized holes in the driver's/passengers rear floors, other than that there is some bubbling through on the edge of the outer rockers but you have to look underneath to see it. The car was painted 10 years ago and will need to be stripped of paint before being restored to give a good finish. Mechanically it needs little more than a good tune up and detailing as it starts and runs very well, the engine has the correct oil pressure and unbelievably doesn't leak, similarly the trans and rear end are fine. It also has good glass and usable chrome. These cars very rarely become available unrestored and original and you have both with this car, this is a car that even a DIYer with even the most basic knowledge should find easy to restore. With these cars commanding $60,000 plus in fully restored condition, you cannot go wrong with this Jag with it's reserve set in the high teens. This is only because the car comes from a local estate sale after the owner passed away and I am selling the car on behalf of the family and it has to go.

Vehicle Condition
A very easy winter restoration project, it has a few small items missing i.e. the interior door panels, some interior card trim, two door handles, the blower motor box and a few other silly items.

1964 Jaguar 3.8 Series 1 Roadster. I bought this car a few years ago wanting to do a complete resto on it, I have made little progress (plans to use a buddies shop fell through) but have collected many of the parts needed. The car is very complete and correct and in truth, if you were to “dig in” and have a place to work, this car would be a pretty easy resto. And since you are looking here, I am sure you know how much a restored Series 1 goes for. 1964 was the last year of the 3.8 liter engine with three big SUs and considered by many to be the last of the “proper” e types. This car has matching numbers and was a one owner car other than the broker that I bought it from and myself. It was also stated that much work had been done before I bought the car including a rebuilt cylinder head, rebuilt carbs, new rotors, calipers and brakes, complete new exhaust system and rebuilt rear end, along with new tyres. Currently the car has a series 2 synchro gearbox for that easier shift but it comes with the original box as well. The body is in overall good condition with sound doors, bonnets, fenders and trunk but will need light body work throughout. It does have the typical floor rust which seems to be very localized to three small areas (see pics). Also there is a little rust in the drivers side rocker panel. Every panel is available for these cars, along with most other peices. The interior has decent carpet and seats but still needs door panels. I have aquired new handles and window cranks along with new dash indicator and toggle switch handles. The chrome is OK for a driver but would need to be redone for a show car. Some peices are not currently installed like the stock heater box (with new motor, squirrel cage etc.), a restored air box/ filter and new permanent magnet starter, parking brake, and original gear box but come with the car. The car also comes with some additional extra parts too including: complete car rubber kit; new radiator header tank, new radiator hose kit, new knock offs and hammer, new side mirrors, new stainless heater tubes, new convertible top, and an extra convertible frame, new floor panels, along with a few other sundries. The car is not currently running due to the starter failure, but seemed to run pretty good before I broke the original starter. I would suggest if you wanted to make this car a “driver”, replace the starer (included), put in a new battery give it a light tune and drive it! Overall a very good start on one of the best looking cars ever made. My reserve is far less than I have into this fine machine.

This is a great start to a resto or could be a driver with very little work. I bought this car 7 years ago with the intent of restoring it myself but I still do not have the space to do so. The car ran at that point but I proceeded to monkey with it until I broke the starter. I figured I should not even be doing that because I was making payments on the car so there it sat in my garage. Years later, the car is paid off and I have still not had time to mess with it so I am letting it go. I have it for sale locally and one Jag collector came and looked at it and really wanted it, said it was an honest machine and a great start to a classic. I guess in hind sight I should have taken his offer, but now this gives the rest of you E lovers the chance to own the coveted series 1 covered headlight roadster, so that is good too!

This is a matched engine and body, the head does not match. It is the triple SU 3.8 liter car, capable I am told of 150+ MPH. The car is not currently running but comes with a new high torque starter, so should be pretty easy to get going. The car has under 100000 original miles and did not smoke or do anything weird when I last drove it. It also stopped and shifted as it should. It currently has a later full synchro gearbox installed but comes with the stock crash box. The car does have some rust in the floor, a couple small holes and the driver side sill is cracked. Really typical stuff. Inside trunk looks good and under hood looks good with the exception of the standard battery area corrosion.I have collected extra parts for a full resto, near complete set of rubbers, new side mirrors, new stainless heater lines, new floor panels, new engine hoses, new knock off set and of course the heater box and air boxes are included, but not currently installed. The car is so complete that it really would be an easy resto, if there is such a thing.
