Ebay item 2/20/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $5,100, no reserve, 8 bids 9 days left in auction. 26k miles. Stuart, Florida
Sellers description:
1970 Jaguar XKE 2+2.
This Jaguar is an amazingly original example that has remained untouched for over 20 years. The car was last registered in 1981, and the previous owner said it had only covered 26,000 miles before it was retired and stored. The car was actually stored on jackstands, and remained inside for its entire life. Unfortunately, the original speedometer was lifted from the car, most probably due to its minimal recorded miles. It also suffered some "Hangar Rash" as evidenced by the random dents in the hood. It looks like the hood was bumped in a few spots leaving some dents that will need to be fixed. Since most of the car is in its original Jaguar Green paint, I would suggest having Painless Dent Remover fix the dents. They have gotten many big dents out for my father on past projects, keeping the cars from having to get bondoed and repainted.
The interior is completely original, however, the seats have dried out and should be recovered. The door panels, and other interior panels are actually in very good condition, especially for being 38 years old. Some of the carpet is still in good shape, but the front floor panels will need to be replaced. See pictures.
The engine starts right up and purrs like a Jaguar should. It is still strong, especially since it has not covered many miles since new. We ran it on a gravity feed can, as we were not sure of the condition of the inside of the tank. After sitting for so many years, my father was delighted to see it fire instantly on the first crank.
The body is extremely solid, with very very minimal rust. The only rust spots we could find were the tiny holes behind the wheels on the lower rockers, and a small spot by the battery box. It is barely visible in the pictures, but we are just making you aware. When you lift up the carpets, the floorboards are perfect. It is as you would expect any car that has been sitting inside to be - very solid. You will be hard pressed to find another E Type in this condition. They are always completely rotted.
This car will make a great candidate for your next restoration project, or you can keep it as a survivor. It is quite nice to see it in its mostly original paint, and with some moderate work, you could have the car spotted in nicely. Keep in mind, that systems such as AC, brakes, transmission, etc will need to be gone through, as the car has not driven in many years.
