This 1973 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster that was built on June 12, 1973, and first distributed via British Leyland Motors of New York. It spent approximately 32 years in Pennsylvania and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2020. The car is finished in Dark Blue with a black soft top over French Blue leather upholstery, and power comes from a numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Features include a color-matched hardtop, air conditioning, a British Leyland AM/FM radio, AMCO bumper bars, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. A compression test was performed in preparation for the sale, but further sorting may be required due to several years in storage. This XKE is now offered with factory books, tools, keys, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, car show plaques, and a clean Texas title.

The car was delivered from the factory in Dark Blue and features chrome bumpers with impact bumper blocks and AMCO bumper bars, a driver-side mirror, and a quad-outlet exhaust. Imperfections in the finish can be seen up close in the gallery, along with paint meter readings, lenses, and glass etchings.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels wear older Dunlop and Michelin whitewall tires that should be replaced due to age. A matching spare wheel is mounted below the trunk floor. The black soft top features a plastic rear window and a matching boot. A color-matched hardtop and stand is included.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in French Blue leather with a matching center armrest, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, a British Leyland AM/FM radio, and an AMCO shift knob and rubber floor mats. The leather is said to have been re-dyed during previous ownership.

The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts factory Smiths instrumentation including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows just over 38k miles.

The 5.3-liter V12 features single overhead camshafts for each cylinder bank along with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The results of a compression test performed by the selling dealer are provided and additional service is recommended following several years in storage.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Straight exhaust pipes are fitted, and undercoating was reportedly applied to the floor pans and wheel wells by the factory.

The engine stamping and chassis numbers correspond to the included Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

Factory books, keys, tools, and service records are included in the sale, along with several car show plaques from previous ownership, including the 1988 Mid-Ohio Salute to Jaguar and the 1991 Pittsburgh Grand Prix.

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was manufactured on June 12, 1973, and originally distributed in the US by British Leyland of New York. It is said to have spent over three decades in a collection in Pennsylvania before being placed in storage for several years and returned to the road in 2020. The car is finished in Dark Blue with a blue soft top and a removable hardtop, and it is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a Bell exhaust system, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, and RoW-style bumpers along with a Moto-Lita steering wheel, an AMCO shift knob, air conditioning, and a British Leyland radio. The car was sold on BaT in February 2021, and subsequent work included retrimming the interior in gray upholstery, repainting the hood, installing upgraded cooling fans, and replacing the exhaust system, soft top, top boot, bumpers, wheels, tires, fog lights, side markers, and taillights. This Series III E-Type is now offered in Texas by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, and a Florida title.

The car left the factory finished in Dark Blue, and it has a removable hardtop and a dark blue soft top with a matching boot. Additional features include a forward-hinged louvered hood, a driver-side mirror, fog lights, and quadruple exhaust outlets. The hood was repainted and RoW-style bumpers were installed in 2021. The soft top, top boot, fog lights, side markers, and taillights have been changed since the previous BaT auction.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XWX tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Since the 2021 BaT auction, the wheels, tires, and rear brake pads have been replaced.

The seats, door sills, and door panels have been retrimmed in gray upholstery, and cabin features include air conditioning, a British Leyland AM/FM radio, an AMCO shift knob, and a fire extinguisher.

The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 42k miles, a handful of which have been added by the selling dealer.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. Work in May 2021 included flushing the coolant, installing upgraded cooling fans, and replacing the thermostat, fuel filter, and several coolant hoses. Compression test results are shown in the gallery below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission and differential fluids were replaced in 2021, and a Bell exhaust system has been installed since the previous BaT auction. The selling dealer reports that the underside has been steam-cleaned.

A “by the numbers” composite has been created by the selling dealer and includes photos of the chassis, engine, and transmission numbers.
