36090 MILES, ON EBAY 08/07, SELLER WRITES:
I am the second owner of this beautiful XKE roadster. It is a California car with 36,090 original miles and has always been garaged. This car has never been in an accident and still has its second set of tires. The body is very straight and has no dings or rust. The car recently underwent a high-dollar to the metal respray of its primrose yellow paint. Its canvas top, tonneau cover carpet and seats were recently replaced and are in very good to excellent condition overall. I recently had the car's power steering system, radiator, and alternator rebuilt/replaced. The car has factory air conditioning and comes with a very rare removable hard top.
There are various minor defects, which include: a windshield wiper scratch on the driver's side of the windscreen; a tear in the canvas top behind the driver's side window; the rubber cover for the right front bumper is missing; the back corners of the seats have been marred by rubbing against the frame of the convertible top when it is down; the rubber covers for the brake and clutch pedals are missing and there is some minor damage to the car's air dam(from scraping the parking curb). I have included pictures which show the defects.
Shipping is the buyers responsibility. Terms of payment are as follows: $2000 deposit with a cashier's check within 48 hours of closing and remaining balance by cash, cashier's check or wire transfer within 7 days of closing. Inspections completed before closing, as bids are not contingent on inspection. Car is sold "As Is," Where is." If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Current bid US $29,995 reserve not met 1 bid 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Evansville, Indiana.

    Sellers description;
1973 Series III E-Type Convertible. 4 speed with air. 37,724 orig. miles. All numbers matching. Buying a Jaguar long distance can present a number of issues. I will try to describe the car as completely as I can. I have owned the car since 2009 and have put less than 800 miles on it. The car has been maintained and improved but not restored to show condition. The car is an excellent driver/local show car. The car is from Arizona and has no body rust or rot. The underside is totally solid. I can't find any evidence of any wreck or body damage. However, the lower air duct under the hood has been scrapped and dented. The car has been repainted once in the original Primrose Yellow and the paint is still in great condition but does have some chips particularly along the cowl at the edge of the hood. The chrome is excellent with no fading, pitting, or flaking. The tires have less than 1000 miles. The car has chrome wire wheels in excellent condition. New parts include an aluminum radiator, rebuilt steering rack, fuel pump, fuel filter, ballast resister, and oil change.

The car runs and drives great. It tracks true down the road at 60 mph with no shimmy, shakes or rattles. The clutch is fine w/no slips or snicks. The transmission shifts fine with no grinding. The ride is quiet and you can carry on a conversation or hear the radio up to 55 mph. The engine is strong and starts good and maintains good oil pressure. The car runs a little rough for the first 5 minutes of warm up and then smooths out nicely with ample power and proper idle. The engine compartment is clean but not detailed in any way. The car has some of the usual lower oil leaks. The brakes function fine but the handbrake light remains on.

The interior is good but not great. The seat covers are light tan, not original and the driver's seat shows wear on the beading near the door but has no rips or tears. The carpet is dark tan and OK but older. The door panels are tan and in good shape with some wear. All gauges work except the clock which did work but does not now. The light and flasher, and fan switches work. The interior light switch does not. The windshield is clear but does have a wiper scratch. The radio is not original but does work. The top is ok but has shrunk and has a 1/2 inch split in the rear window.

The cooling system has no leaks and the car does not run hot. The Air Conditioning has been upgraded to 134a but has a slow leak and needs recharging each year to cool properly. Some of the A/C louvre slats in the dash are missing.

Included are two sets of keys, spare tire, jack, tools and bag, luggage rack, tonneau, driver's side remote mirror.

Car to be at auction 6/25

    www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/jaguar/1973-jaguar-e-type-s3-3/

    Auction description:

    1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster

    Trade Classics - Online, UK

    12 - 26 June, 2025

    Lot 2869

The current owner, Robert, has been an avid fan of classic British motoring for as long as he can remember, he said, "Jaguars have always been one of my favourite brands, and in particular, the E-Type. There's something about the style and performance that just ticks all the boxes for me".

Robert tells us more about his experience with the Jaguar, "Its been one of those cars that I just had to tick off the bucket list. Its been everything I wanted it to be and more, there been a fair few lovely journeys out in it, exploring the countryside and earning some admiring thumbs up from enthusiasts along the way. I truly love the car but practicality means I need to look at other options".

    Wheels and Tyres

The Jaguar is fitted with a lovely set of 15" wire wheels - these appear to be in great condition and are free from major signs of wear. These finish the car off beautifully looking over the exterior.

The car is equipped with a set of UniRoyal tyres at the front and rear, the condition looks good with a respectable level of wear. The tyre specification shows 205/65 at both the front and rear - these were new in Oct 2023.

    Bodywork

The exterior of the Jaguar shows well - both doors, engine cover, and bonnet section open and close well.

We noted no apparent signs of any serious corrosion or issues with the bodywork, and the car looks lovely out on the road.

    Paint

Looking over the E-Type, the car is in excellent condition with the unique Primrose Yellow paint finish looking lovely. The colour looks an even match across the car, and the finish to the paint is consistent across the exterior.

    Glass and Trim

All of the glass sections around the Jaguar looked good with windscreen, windows, mirrors and lenses all appearing in a good condition with no cracks, chips or significant scratching that we observed on our visit.

Chrome work and badges looked great with the headlight sections looking really smart.

    Seats and Carpets

The smart black leather seats with contrasting yellow stitching are in superb condition, showing just some minor creases in the leather and a small nick on the piping, although nothing overly concerning. Upon inspection, the rear shelf section appeared to be in really good condition, with barely a mark on the bench.

The carpets in the cabin are also show really nicely, with minimal signs of use. Looking underneath the mats showed no worrying issues. We also reviewed the boot section, finished in a cinnamon colour, which again displayed well and is clean and tidy.

    Dashboard

The black dash appears in great shape with no issues or scratches to report. The top of the dash presents well and without splits, cracking, or warping. The odometer displayed ~40,863 miles at the time of our visit.

The gauges, switches, and controls are beautifully presented; all faces look clean and clear, they show no fogging or scratching. We noted no issues with any warning lights, and the dials were all functioning without concern.

    Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic 3-spoke Jaguar steering wheel features a lovely finish that nicely complements the rest of the interior. Nothing of significant concern was observed here, but there were a few signs of patina.

The gear stick showed minimal amount of use and no visible signs of damage, presenting in lovely condition. The handbrake looked in great condition also.

    Engine and Gearbox

We took the car out on some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. During the drive, we ran through the motions, taking the E-Type through the gears and getting an overview from Robert's perspective on how the car performs.

The engine is in excellent condition and Robert has done a lot of work, most items being preventative, e.g. high torque starter motor, engine wiring loom and aluminium radiator - see the History and Paperwork section for more information, and of course the invoices / receipts in the history file.

The gearbox and overdrive unit has also been reconditioned for total peace of mind.

    Suspension and Brakes

On the drive out, we heard no knocks, bangs, or squeaks from the suspension, and overall, the car performed as expected with no observed issues.

The brakes felt solid with no noticeable pull or vibrations during the journey, bringing the car to a stop smoothly and in line with Jaguar's quality expectations. Robert overhauled the system including a new main brake servo and vacuum one way valve.

    The Drive

As to be expected from a car of this calibre, the drive is quite sublime - be it accelerating through country roads or cruising up the coast, the Jaguar E-Type provides a comfortable drive that oozes class and comfort whilst offering respectable performance, even amongst modern traffic.

    Electrics and Other

The electronics in the E-Type are relatively straight forward but present really well. Dials read without concern as do the dash instruments. The car is retro fitted with a Blaupunkt DAB stereo system.

One point to note is Robert fitted a completely new SNG ignition system for total reliability.

Underneath the rear bench holds a fire extinguisher, and in the boot, is a spare wire wheel and tyre. Robert let us know that he's had no issues with the electrical elements on the car and everything is working as it should.

Robert has told us some of the new parts he has had added to the car, these are:

    High Torque Starter Motor

Main Brake Servo & vacuum one way valve

    Rubber fuel pipe kit

    Engine starter wiring loom

    Engine wiring loom

    Leads,coil,distributor cap rotor arm& plugs

    Front crankshaft seal

4 Uniroyal tyres on the 24/10/23

    Tinted windscreen and fittings

    Dash top moulding

    Reconditioned gearbox and overdrive unit

    Complete new clutch unit

    See Reciepts

    Previous owner

    Aluminium Radiator

    Complete new SNG Ignition system

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.
