Sellers description:
This is a 1970 Jaguar XKE 2+2 Automatic. I bought this car about 2 years ago for parts, mainly for the bonnet, but after it was delivered and I checked it out I decided to keep it as a project and restore it as a driver. Unfortunately I was layed off from work and now have no money to spend on the restoration. When I first received it, I started it up and took a spin around the block and that’s the last time it was driven. The transmission seemed ok, it moved forward in drive and backward in reverse ok. The car is in relatively fair shape overall for a 35 year English car and could be put back on the road with out too much effort. I fired up the engine last week and it still starts easy but the carburetors both flood. Got the flooding to stop by lightly banging on the outside of the float chambers. The fuel inlet valves are sticking open because of dried up fuel deposits from having set for a couple of years. The carbs need cleaning and a rebuild kit installation and then adjustment. I let the engine run for about 20 minutes after I got the floats unstuck and the radiator did not boil over. The car has the usual XKE rust areas. The front drivers side and front passenger sides have rusted floor footwells that have been patched up with fiberglass. The rust areas are small in size right now but will need attention. I was going to weld in new partial floor sections but never got around to it. The doors also have rusted bottoms. The right rear quarter panel behind the wheel has a small rusted out area that has been repaired with fiberglass. The left and right sills show signs of rust but are still fairly solid. The left quarter panel just in front of the rear wheel is also showing spotted rusting. The exterior of the car will need new paint. I have sanded down some of the cracked paint areas and applied primer to keep the surfaces from rusting. The bumper chrome is shiny and the bumpers are in fair shape. The chrome piece that fits across the grille opening is missing. As for the interior new rugs and rug pads are needed as well as new gray covering for the inner sills. The headliner is sagging and will need gluing. The leather seats are not ripped but need gray dye to cover up where some of the color has worn off. The driver seat needs new beading. The rear seat looks like it was not used much. The car has the factory air conditioner but it has been disconnected. I think all the air conditioner parts are there except for a couple of hoses from the condenser. The heater assembly is installed but has been bypassed. A spare tire and wheel is included. The radio is in place on the console but not connected. When I got the car it had the left mud shield panel missing and I replaced with a new one. The relays that attach to this panel were removed and I reinstalled them but the wiring needs to be traced out to connect them properly. I think these relays are for the air conditioner, the horn and the alternator. Some one installed what looks like a car alarm that is connected to a siren and it also has a relay. The car has an Illinois Title and I will provide a notarized Bill of Sale. The VIN # is P1R43663BW. The odometer shows 46,000 but I do not know if this is the true mileage. This is a great project car for restoration maybe not for a show car but a daily driver. As I said before I do not think it would take a lot of work to make it safe to drive. You could then at least drive it while working on the restoration at little at a time.
