    Sellers comment:
This Jaguar E-Type Series III is all original! It has had three owners. The first was a lady in California who bought the car new and owned it for approximately 10 years. She sold it to a collector who sold it to me in 1993. I have driven it approximately 900 miles in the last 11 years. The car has been maintained by Jaguar Denver since I have owned it. The E-Type is a work of art. Malcolm Sayer, the famous aerodynamicist, designed it. The stunning design is recognized worldwide as a classic. Its engine is as equally unique. This was the first V12 to be mass-produced since the Lincoln Zephyr. The block and head are of aluminum alloy. The huge engine has 4 Zenith 175 CD SE carburetors and 7 main bearings. The SAE quoted a rating of 317bhp at 6,200rpm. The manual transmission is a 4-speed synchromesh with hydraulically operated clutch. The car has front independent double wishbones incorporating anti-dive suspension, telescopic dampers and anti-roll bar. The rear is independent with lower tubular links and fixed length drive shafts, longitudinal location by radius arms. Two coil springs and telescopic dampers each side, anti-roll bar. Although this car was born long before the air bag, it has a collapsible energy-absorbing steering column that can be adjusted to the driver’s profile. The E-Type has power-assisted rack and pinion steering and Lockheed vacuum servo power disk brakes front and rear. I replaced the original 20-year-old Dunlop SP Sport tires with Pirelli P5 high performance rubber as this car easily spins up to 135MPH. The telescoping convertible top folds down behind the driving compartment. The chrome hood locks inside the compartment release the forward folding hood (bonnet) to offer full access to the huge engine. The instrumentation is aircraft style flip switches. The pull choke has automatic release. An aftermarket fiberglass hard top is included as well. If you have never driven an E-Type you have missed one of life’s beautiful moments. The starter needs to turn the V12 over several times before enough fuel and air has found its way down the long induction pipes to fire. When it does start, the power of the massive engine creates a song unique to Jaguar while the 324ft lb of torque twists the entire car as it revs. There is a steady surge of power all the way with no suggestion of getting on the cam. On the road, looking down that very long, red, louvered hood as the scenery screams past is very exciting. The rack and pinion steering is tight and the low profile of the car increases the feeling of speed. Anywhere you go, anywhere, people will stop and stare. They will wave, nod, applaud, whistle and acknowledge that this is the car they always wanted. In 1973 there were about 1200 of these cars sold in the US. Today the estimate is that that are less than 500 on the road. An original with less than 18,000 miles is very rare.

    Vehicle Condition
Overall, the car is excellent condition. It has not been in any collision of which I am aware. I had it inspected and the folks at the body shop told me it had never been hit. The paint is beautiful. While the collector who sold it to me guaranteed it had not been touched up, it seems difficult the original paint could be that good. The interior shows very little wear; the seats leather seats are in good shape and the dash is near perfect. Air conditioning, heat, blower, interior lights all are in excellent condition. The car has been garaged at all times and protected with a custom fitted cover while in the garage. The clock does not work; I have not tried to repair it. There is a small tear in the door side of the driver's seat due to the convertible top hitting the seat if it is not pulled forward when the top is lowered. I am guilty of doing this myself until I noticed the problem. The trunk was opened only once in the 11 years I have owned the car. I could not get it to close and a small indentation shows that it was slammed hard at some time in the past. Jaguar Denver was able to close the trunk and I have not opened it since. I have additional custom floor mats with Jag logo for the car and as a result the original mats are in very good shape. The top has some small tears where it buttons to the body behind the passengers. As a result it does not fit as it did originally and is not airtight. I’m not sure anyone understands the electrical system of these particular British cars. Sometimes the battery discharges while the car is running. Sometimes the battery goes dead. My solution is to have my own battery charger and a set of cables in the passenger’s rear storage compartment. This car has many, many hoses. They leak. Plan to have a carpet or pan available under the engine. The car has a small scratch (3in) to the rear of the driver’s door. On the right side there is a small indentation from an empty cooler falling from a shelf and hitting the car. That did not cause a scratch. While the engine is a thing of beauty it is not as quiet as today's cars. With the top down and the engine revving it is pretty loud. I happen to like the sound, but it is not driving a Mercedes. At about 100MPH you cease to notice it due to the wind noise. The E-Type runs better and sounds better if lead-like additives are added to the fuel. At higher octane (104 octane aviation fuel, available at most airports) it runs very, very well. I have not attempted to clean the engine or make cosmetic changes to it. The engine has been serviced twice by Jaguar Denver and they verified its low mileage and excellent condition.
